Disable and Enable USB Ports

This tip is to prevent unauthorized access from taking out data without permission or spreading viruses through the use of USB or and flash drives.

However, this trick will also disable the access to your USB connected peripheral devices. So, do not use it if you have USB connected keyboard and mouse.

Step 1. Right click on start and click Run. If you cannot find RUN, type it in the search box. or Press window button + R. A dialog box will appear type "regedit" without the quotes.

This will launch the Registry Editor.



Step 3. Navigate to your local Machine Folder here is the exact file path.

 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\usbstor

Step 4. When you get the right folder on the right side of it that is the work area, double-click on Start.



Step 5. A dialog will appear in the Value Data box, enter 4 make sure that your setting is the same as the image shows click on OK Close Registry Editor and refresh your desktop.

Step 6. To re-enable access to your USB ports, follow the steps but this step 6 you need to enter 3 in the Value Data box for you enable your USB ports.
